About the Project
The purpose of the Compatible Use (CU) Implementation project is to begin executing several key recommendations from the Nellis Complex Compatible Use Plan (CUP). The recommendations address land use compatibility planning, unmanned aerial system (drone) usage, alternative energy siting around the Nellis Complex, and the enhancement of partnerships and communication processes among stakeholders. Like the CUP, this project is funded by a grant from the Department of Defense Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, with a 10% local match by Clark County, the grant sponsor. As the project sponsor and grant manager, Clark County is responsible for coordinating the collaborative partnership among the many stakeholders in this region that support the Nellis Complex military missions, training facilities, and operations in Clark, Lincoln, and Nye Counties. Many of the same partners who participated in the CUP will continue their involvement through roles on the Compatible Use Implementation Committee.
The specific recommended actions being implemented in the first phase of this project include the development of key documents, policies, and tools:
- Drone education materials
- Drone Hazard Plan
- Drone hazard ordinance template
- Clark County Master Plan policies and guidance
- Renewable energy zoning regulations
- Interactive GIS web-based portal
- 3-D imaginary surfaces model
